The Seething Death is a tenth to twelfth order wizard spell which summons a drop of pure chaos which is decanted into a golden thimble. When removed from the thimble, through pouring, spilling, or otherwise, it expands, converting anything it comes in contact with into more of the substance. Described as a "contagious lack of thing-ness," the bubbling, viscous goo created by the spell expands rapidly along areas of solid material but relatively slowly through air, though it is not completely checked by passage through air. It is believed that unchecked, this spell would destroy the World. It has only known to have been used three times; the first two times it was stopped with a countercharm. The original countercharm has since been lost, and its third use by Telurinon of the Black Robe was successfully countered by Tobas of Telven using Ellran's Dissipation.
Despite the use of practically every containment, countercharm, time altering, or other potentially useful spell, none seemed to have any effect on the Seething Death. Neither warlockry nor witchcraft could effect, or even perceive, the Seething Death. Sorcery, theurgy, and demonology all proved equally helpless against it.
